Just read a posting from a school mate expressing his frustration with being forced to stand in line at the grocer while watching the freebies handed out before him.
I went to Walmart a few days back to grab some items as I was on the way home from work. Turns out when I arrived the place is packed and people are everywhere. I make my way through the store and end up being the fifth person in my check-out line. I feel my school mate’s pain and frustration as the four customers in line ahead of me all paid with those government check things and of course each item is checked off with its corresponding item on the list. Ears turning red, food thawing out, and all the while I wait in line with my hard earned U.S. dollars in pocket as the four people ahead of me walk out with free product.
Now I do understand that there are those in need and those that deserve assistance but with consistent hand-outs what generates the incentive to move beyond their situation. We have created a nation of dependency and taught this cycle to generations of recipients. Our government has recently prided itself on following a model of Europe and with the UK setting records of welfare recipients, 1 of every 8 households are on welfare, I guess I do see the similarity. This has become the new age slave master teaching most that receive benefits that receiving these benefits is better than working for them. The system is designed for short term assistance not lifelong or multigenerational payouts.
I recently read an article where during the interview a welfare recipient ask the reporter “if someone were to offer you a million dollars and you had to do nothing for it, would you take it?”, she continued by stating, “the government offered it to me in monthly payments, rent supplement, and Medicaid, so I took it”. This is the beast that has been created.
It may seem cruel to regulate or even cut these benefits but it has also been proven that when the benefits are cut or even discontinued the people find work. It has become far too easy to sit back, collect assistance, be picky, and say there are no jobs for me. Yet take away the assistance and any job begins to look good. Those that came before us worked. They did what was needed to provide. They struggled, gained character, showed grit, and our nation was prosperous. There is no declaration stating that each of us are to receive the perfect job. In fact, sometime you have to eat a little crap. But understand those are the times when we build upon ourselves, that we learn lessons, and receive the initiative to strive harder.
I fear that we are at point in the life of our nation where the people have conceded allowing the government to dictate their lives and provided their livelihood. They have traded their liberty for slavery.
PS: Those that receive and those that argue in their favor always refer to it a Government money, it is the PEOPLES money! The Government is nothing more than a poorly operated administrator.
